Mixing

From raw multitracks to a coherent mix: we balance levels, EQ, compression and space in our Columbusplein control room — with up to 2 revision rounds agreed per project.

Mix engineer at console and monitors in the control room.

Recording collects choices; mixing makes them feel like one song. At Resourceworks we work offline or in a short session with you in the room, depending on how much feedback you want and whether stems come from band tracking or vocal sessions.

Mixing serves artists, bands and producers who tracked themselves or left stems with us. We do not «finish an album in an hour» — per-track, per-album or per-hour session pricing keeps scope and budget clear before we touch faders.

Process

  1. Stem check

Upload stems via the agreed route; we verify sync, naming and headroom. See mix file formats for export rules.

  2. Brief

References, must-haves and hard nos (e.g. dry drums). We confirm price and timeline within 2 business days.

  3. Mix pass

First full mix; at €85 session rate you work in the room on our 4 monitor pairs.

  4. Revision and export

Up to 2 revision rounds on concrete notes; then WAV/MP3 delivery and optional stems for mastering.

What mixing here means

We set each track at the right level, carve conflicting frequencies, add compression and reverb where the song needs it — not where it is trendy. Vocals from our booths or external sessions sit in the stereo image; drums from the live room keep energy without turning muddy.

Mixing is not mastering: final level for streaming belongs in mastering or a deliberate DAW choice. We deliver a mix ready to master, with headroom and without brickwall limiting unless you explicitly want a loud demo.

Offline mix vs studio session

Per track (€280): send stems, we mix on our clock, you get a first version for home listening. Best when references are clear and you do not need to attend.

Per hour (€85): you sit in the control room, we adjust together on our monitors. Useful for dense arrangements or many iterations in one afternoon.

Album (€950, up to 10 tracks): one consistent tone across songs; stems must follow the same structure per track (see format guide).

Delivering stems: what we need

Export every track from the same start point (bar 1, beat 1), same sample rate and bit depth — preferably 24-bit WAV, no mp3 stems. No processing on export unless it is an intentional creative choice (e.g. pedal tone baked in).

Name files clearly: Drums_Kick.wav, Vox_Lead.wav, not Audio_17.wav. Include BPM and key. Missing or misaligned stems delay the mix and may add €85 hours.

References and feedback

Send one or two reference tracks and say what you want from them: «vocal forward», «wide guitars», «little drum reverb». References are not a clone order; they still save debate.

Bundle revision notes: bullet points per song beat scattered messages. We include 2 rounds in the agreed price; extra rounds or new stems after delivery are quoted per terms.

Turnaround and delivery formats

Timeline depends on queue and complexity; after stem check we give an estimate. First mix version usually within a few business days for offline per-track work, faster when you book a session.

You receive stereo mix as 24-bit WAV and often an MP3 for phone checks. On request we deliver instrumentals or TV mix without vocal. Project archive 24 months; re-download via contact.

What is not included

  • Mastering and vinyl prep
  • New recording or fixing bad takes (back to studio or vocal booth)
  • Stem rescue on heavy noise or clipping that cannot be fixed cleanly
  • Unlimited revisions beyond 2 rounds
  • Re-arranging or adding new instruments

Vocal editing and tuning can be added by agreement at session rate; mention it at intake.

FAQ

Can I mix home-recorded stems?

Yes if they are technically sound — see file formats. Bad room or clipping limits what we can save; we are upfront before starting.

How many tracks fit one «track» price?

One song with all its stems (drums, bass, keys, vocals, etc.). Multiple versions or languages are separate tracks at €280.

Does the album rate cover a six-song EP?

Yes, up to ten tracks under €950 if they share stem conventions. Eleven or more: custom quote via contact.

Do you mix podcasts?

Spoken dialogue fits podcast recording or separate speech edit; music beds for jingles can use Mixing.

What happens after revision rounds?

After 2 rounds extra work is €85 hourly or per-track as agreed. New recording means new stems, not just «one more revision».
